Achievements

and Benefits of Spiral Based Systems

A 90% reduction in emulsified oils at levels of 2000 mg/l in aerobic treatment with retention of 8 hrs

An 80% nitrification in aerobic treatment in 6 – 7 hrs

Sustained bio gas production in spent wash treatment with no upsets

Increased yield in alcohol production in fermentation process in lab trials

The quantity of spirals required in any reactor does not exceed 5 – 10% of the liquid volume

No addition of further quantity of spirals required for any increase in organic load for the same flow rates. Bio mass generation is totally dependent on the organic load.

Liquefy solid organic waste for convenient disposal with low retention

Comparison of Spirals with Other Random Media

Spirals

Mass transfer efficiency high - Continuous shearing of bio mass from the media occurs to provide an exceptionally large population of bio mass for treatment.

6 hrs retention in aeration tank for sewage treatment adequate (Makes the Footprint of the STP smaller)

Shut down and restart possible with ease as spiral support attached growth (Easy on Maintenance)

No fine bubble diffusers required-Saves Power Consumption

Specific gravity 1.05. Its made of PVC – submerges in water.

Shape of Spirals make it swirl and fluidized with slightest disturbance

As spirals fluidized along with sludge, no dead pockets in the reactor and no choking occurs in the media

Other Processes

Mass transfer efficiency low – tubular shape of media may allow sludge accumulation inside the tube. The generation of biomass poor compared to spirals.

May require at least 12-24 hrs of retention in aeration tank (Makes the Footprint of the STP larger)

Shut down and restart sluggish as media floats on water and wetting surface of media inadequate (Tough on Maintenance)

Fine bubble diffusers a must-Power Consumption is high

Specific gravity 0.98. Most of the medias made in PP –floats in water. Media floats on water as the shape consists of simple rings with serrations or with diagonals.

Conventional stacked media accumulates sludge in the aeration tank reducing treatment efficiency.

In Overall,

the benefits are

  • Low Power Consumption

  • Low on Maintenance

  • Smaller Foot print-Compact & easy to maintain

  • No Replacement of Media (Spirals) required

  • Can Handle Shock Loads

  • Easy to meet expansion needs

  • Reuse of Quality Water

  • Odor Free & Eco Friendly
